Section I. Recycling Overview, 2002 and Beyond

 

Recycling CenterIn 1990, the District first published recycling directions for businesses. The basic directions have not changed much since that time, as the only modification now allows junk mail and office paper to be mixed together.

To help assure success, we are requiring that each business, industrial establishment, commercial facility, school, hospital and office follow the simple guideline
Sorted Recyclabless listed below. In each category, only those materials that are acceptable are allowed to be mixed. Please note that while an item may be unacceptable in one category, it may very well be recyclable in another. The recyclables are to be loose, dry, and NOT broken, bagged or compacted unless otherwise noted. Also, all loads must be covered.

Section II. Business Recycling Guidelines (no charge)

 
A). Office Paper and Junk Mail

C). Glass bottles, plastic containers and metal cans (All containers, jugs and cnas must be free of food wastes and dry. Remove labels from cans. Do NOT break glass. NO plastic bags. Remove and dispose of caps in trash)

Section III. Disposal Information

 

Shredder StationIn addition to questions concerning recycling, we are frequently asked about how or where to dispose of certain items. A Scale of Charge summary may be obtained by clicking here (Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or higher required). A summary of locations where businesses must send materials is listed below.

 


Shredder Station

The following can be brought to the Shredder Station and can be mixed:

  • Food wastes, general solid waste, pizza boxes, coffee filters, egg cartons, toys, plates
  • Plastic bags, shrink wrap, medicine bottles, plastic tubing, plate glass, light bulbs, string
  • Diapers, hangers, empty toner cartridges, carbon paper, typewriter ribbon cartridges
  • Books, wrapping paper, foreign cardboard, paper towels, tissues, rubber bands, staples
  • Empty, dry paint cans (lids removed), aerosol cans (one per bag), empty oil containers
  • Waxed, oil soaked paint or food contaminated cardboard, wet cardboard, blueprints

The following are accepted at the Shredder Station, but MUST be separated:

  • Appliances, metal, bicycles, metal file cabinets, scrap metals, tire rims, etc.
  • Couches, stuffed furniture, carpets, etc.

Landfill

The following must be brought to the Landfill. They can be mixed together.

  • Construction debris, sheetrock, plaster, demolition debris, vinyl siding, etc.
  • Lumber, wood, branches, brush, roofing debris, concrete, bricks, etc.
  • Wooden furniture, wooden desks, wooden chairs, etc.

General Conditions

  • All loads must be covered and tied down.
  • Propane tanks must be brought to and separated out at the Shredder Station
  • We do NOT accept hazardous wastes, asbestos, or liquids (except 5 gallons waste oil per day).
  • Recyclables must be separated from solid waste before or during delivery.
